A Whole Month of Concerts

Whether it was losing your voice while singing along to Cez, being crushed in a mosh-pit to Delara’s captivating tones or feeling the sweat trickle down your back in a human sauna while Nr.4 vibed on stage – one thing became clear: this is what the students in Ås live for. Tuntreet sent out a survey to the student body, asking for feedback and ratings for the different concerts. In total, we received 143 responses.

Cezinando

“Didn’t look like he wanted to be there. Way too many good songs were left out, unfortunately! I’m a big Cezinando fan but couldn’t really enjoy myself here.”

“Really good interaction with the audience!! He is a very weird and special person but he vibes insanely well with the audience. Can also hear and see that he actually sings on stage.”

“There was plenty of space on the floor despite them saying it was full. Didn’t hear the lyrics of his songs, which I think is the best part of his songs.”

Despite some frustration with those who couldn’t get in, the students who were there give praise to an electrifying stage show! However, it’s also clear that many people missed more well-known songs. There was also a clear divide of opinion with some saying the sound quality was better than it has ever been in Aud.Max., while others thought it was poor. Despite this divide, the rating of 6 might speak for itself!

Synne Vo

“This was a vibe, honestly”

“She managed to engage the entire room, there was good sing-along and a nice mix between lively songs and calm songs”

“What a presence and crowd-control! Awesome!”

The students almost had nothing but praise for Synne Vo! It’s clear that the students appreciated her connection with the audience. However, poor sound is a recurrence here as well. Despite this, it seems most people were very happy with the performance.

Arif

“The best finish UKA could have had!”

“He is a very good artist but felt like he was only singing his songs, without actually acknowledging where and with whom he was. A very generic concert if you can put it that way?”

“The only thing ruining the experience was the well-known Aud.Max.-acoustics.”

Most of the feedback we got here were thrilled with the concert. Not only did he play loads of bangers, but the audience also felt he had good interaction with the audience. This concert also received criticism for the “Aud.Max.-acoustics”, in addition to several pointing out Arif’s use of play-back.

Roc boyz

“Bummer that they came on THAT late:(“

“Sad to invite cocaine addicts and violence enthusiasts to our Samfunn :( Not very fun to be present when the atmosphere became so aggressive.”

“Incredible fun with lots of energy! Impressive screen, not the best music in the world.”

From a crowd favourite to a more controversial act, we have the Roc Boyz gang. Students reported several bangers but also a somewhat tense atmosphere. Many commented on the group’s attitude towards drugs and them attracting an aggressive audience. Still, there were positive comments of a good atmosphere in the audience and good energy from the group. Roc Boyz was also criticised by several for coming on stage late. But good things come to those who wait, or …?

Timbuktu

“Long live Timbuktu’s DJ with the yellow headset”

“Thought it was a warm-up band”

“A little much messing around and not enough focus on the songs, but more like wandering around on stage”

The students praise the DJ with the yellow headset who was amazing! They are also commended for having good speeches between the songs about peace related to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Some criticise the stage performance for being a bit too static, while others wished for more focus on the music.

Oslo Ess

“The rebels from Oslo strike again, couldn’t hear a word but wow, what a noise, 6/6!!! Would go again!!!”

“Oslo can have my ass”

“Very fun!! The sound system maybe struggled a bit with handling this one?”

Some complained about the volume being too high, while others thought it was an absolute vibe.

Rotlaus

“Classicccccc, but wish they had more interaction with the audience”

“Great atmosphere! I feel the sound in Aud.Max. didn’t work well with them”

“Good dancing atmosphere”

Here, it’s reported about good sing-alongs and dancing! Unfortunately, it seems the poor acoustics of Aud.Max. limited the concert. Despite good vibes, there were quite a few comments in the survey about not being able to hear the lyrics. However, this didn’t stop the students from grabbing each other and dancing swing!

Ballinciaga

“Just as expected, but give me 2 guys and some speakers and I could probably fool all of Ås, #UKAcouldhavesavedalotofmoneyhere”

“A lot of pushing and shoving in the audience so I was a little distracted from the concert”

“Awesome! Don’t like “russ”-music that much, but this one hit”

Similar to Roc Boyz, the Ås-students were critical of this boys’ group – it’s not easy to play “russ”-music in Ås! First and foremost, the audience is criticised because of a lot of pushing and aggression that ruined the concert. Ballin’ is also accused of using playback and putting little effort into their show. However, there were also positive voices in the survey, with several students mentioning they surprisingly enjoyed themselves!

Delara

“Really good performance. + for the “moshpit””

“The best concert, intimate, good interaction, creative and increeeedibly good live”

“I have never not heard the audience… if that makes sense”

The students have chosen yet another audience favourite. Delara had good interaction with the audience, accompanied by beautiful music and vocals that captured the entire Festsalen. Here, the sound was good and clear which let the audience focus on the performance. Many appreciated Delara’s live performance skills, which made it all into a very good concert experience.

Klovner i kamp

“Haven’t had that much fun at a concert ever!!! Awesome sound, entertaining on stage, incredible setlist, overall 10/10”

“No queue and created a good atmosphere”

“Book them for Ås forever”

The clowns got the atmosphere buzzing! Judging from the lack of queue, this wasn’t the most popular concert during UKA, but still memorable for those who attended. Apart from some poor sound quality in Aud.Max., the students had nothing but good vibes to report :)

No.4

“Wow, 10/10”

“A bit much yappa yappa from the audience but No.4 managed to deliver an incredibly performance!”

“Definitely a 7/6 for the audience!”

Several report a good atmosphere in the audience and that the selection of songs let everyone sing along. Some negative voices complained about poor behaviour, noise from the audience, and terrible sound quality. But it seems like the majority thoroughly enjoyed themselves!

Sløtface

“WHAT A SHOW! They deserved a waaay bigger audience! Huge amounts of energy and crowd work, and I enjoyed myself despite not knowing a single song!”

“The drummer was heeeella good! (And handsome)”

“To have more fun, I would have to be more drunk, that’s a minus”

Another concert that deserved a bigger audience, was Sløtface. According to the students, they delivered an insane performance great good crowd work, presence, and music. Festsalen was also a positive factor for the sound quality!

Oscar Blesson

“Too laidback for my taste: Didn’t look like he was having that much fun himself”

“Good concert but not that good audience interaction.”

“Didn’t know who he was, but it was a beautiful show and atmosphere”

Comments pointed to a poor atmosphere and a desire for some more energy and audience interaction from Oscar’s side! Still, it’s worth mentioning that a small audience significantly lowered the mood.

Blomst

“Incredible show! The music is awesome, and the band had a great connection with the audience! Super cozy with backup vocals from IVAR at the end too!”

“Never heard of them but they were really good on stage. Very good at talking with the audience, creating an atmosphere, etc.”

“Oh my god superduper fun!! Great to have a band who isn’t mainstream, ultra-good sound, good atmosphere, super cute artists!”

The blossoming girls of Pikekoret IVAR joined in on the show, which many found incredibly endearing. Blomst undoubtedly stole the hearts of the Ås-students’ with their sweet charm and catchy, not-so-mainstream music. The band demonstrates the importance of presence and crowd work as several students who didn’t know the songs or knew who they were reported an amazing concert experience!

The students’ thoughts of UKA

Finally, we asked the students if they want to share some thoughts about what they are left with after UKA that came and went. First and foremost, many students expressed that they truly enjoyed themselves during this year’s UKA! They commented that both the artists, sløyfa, and the events were well organised this time. However, some criticism was raised regarding, among other things, prices, the age limit to spritsløyfa, and the queuing system. Some also missed more Ås-relevant artists and rural music like Rotlaus. Something we can also take from this survey is the importance of renovating Aud.Max. to improve sound quality, as it seems to have affected several concerts. Overall, though, the student body is satisfied and full on a whole month of festivities! Now, it’s time to take a breather before exam season kicks in full force!
