On February 27–28, the Norwegian National Championship in bouldering was held. A total of 81 climbers participated – 29 womenand 52 men. Among them was NMBU student Mathias Øiom. He explains that this year the championship was held in a new format, where participants were not allowed to see the boulder problems before it was their turn. Previously, there had been a queue system whereclimbers could watch each other’s attempts, but this was not the case this year. As a result, the competition became more unpredictable, but at the same time fairer.
Once a participant starts, they have five minutes to complete the problem, and points are awarded based on how far they progress throughthe boulder. Øiom finished in 20th place and was very satisfied with the result, as it has been several years since he last competed at thenational level.
In the men’s category, the victory went to Leo Chiba, while Sunniva Eik Haave won the women’s category.
