Why sit still when you could stand for election at the GA?
Why sit still when you could stand for election at the GA?
Studentsamfunnets General Assembly (GA) is ready to roll November 1st. We took a chat with those formerly elected, who will now have their successors elected at the GA, about their experiences from the various positions.

Head of Administration for Samfunnet, 1 year
I think the most important part of the General Assembly is that every member can partake in deciding how Samfunnet i Ås is going to be developed and run! The peak of the semester, at least for me!
The most fun part about the position as Head of Administration is the insight you get about running an organization, and how by collaborating with members, committee members, Heads of committees and other board members you can contribute to development of the organization through day-to-day affairs and decisions.
This past year I have learned to appreciate my helpers even more, and to enjoy the time spent working together towards a common goal!
Marek Zimmerman
Head of Marekting for Samfunnet, 1 year.
We vote over how Samfunnet is going to be operated, how to spend the money, who is performing in Aud.Max, and the general opportunities through election of board members and discussing concrete cases within the organization.
The people. It has been amazing to work with so many cool and ridiculously talented people! It is incredible to see what we pulled off despite being understaffed in long periods. It has also been incredibly fun to open the house more and more with the phenomenal demand and interest in events!
I have learned so much about unity and cooperation, relations and communication, and about delegating and coordinating. I have learned to make decisions, and to stand by them. I have also worked on my patience, but I suppose I still have some work to do, hehe :)

The elections are, of course, important, this is when the General Assembly can decide who are going to hold the different positions moving forward. Therefore, it is important that Thorvald and Tora are allowed to speak their minds about Samfunnet’s direction.
The most fun must be being able to collaborate with so many talented people. And making sure Thorvald and Tora can party in a safe and enjoyable way.
Collaborating with many different people, working together towards a common goal.
Sigrid Jordet Bruheim
Head of Concert at Samfunnet i Ås, 1 year
During the General Assemblies, all of our members get the opportunity to influence how the organization and the house is going to grow. Get involved, read the case documents and use your voice! And not to mention: pea soup.
The most fun part about being Head of Concert must be seeing the audience’s response after a successful concert. It is a great feeling that I will never forget. In addition, it is interesting to be a member of the board of Samfunnet and to contribute to the day-to-day affairs always being executed in the best way possible.
The list is really long. I have, among other things, learned a lot about leadership and collaborating with many people with different perspectives and wishes. In general, I have learned tons about the concert arranging process, from A to Z, everything from economic calculations to technical riders.

Leader of the Business Committee, 1 year
The fact that the students can vote for who they want to lead Samfunnet. This means every student indirectly partakes in shaping the semester program, which artists are performing in Aud.Max the coming year and how amazing the next semester at Samfunnet will be!
Building the bridge between students and the industry is incredibly fun. It is also (to be blunt) SICK to be responsible for the events where students can land their first full-time jobs, summer employment or trainee-positions!
I have learned tons about collaboration, dividing the labor, communication and delegation. Last, but not least, I have learned that the sky is the limit when a group of NMBU students go together to work something out!
Attend the General Assembly!!
Kristiane Holter
Head of Administration in The Business Committee, 1 year
This is the best arena for your voice to be heard! You get the opportunity to influence who are going to be in the different boards and decide on cases. Also, there is bingo during the General Assembly, making the evening extra entertaining.
The coolest part is being able to shape your own position. I have had the opportunity to perform other tasks outside the job description, like leading Business Day and organizing social arrangements. You get to know all the board members in the office wing, and you get to participate in many fun events.
Through my position I have arranged seminars, had economical responsibility and learned good meeting practices. You also get to work on being independent, structured and improving your computer typing speed. ;-)
Andreas Kalle Kinnari
Head of Marketing for the Business Committee with NMBU, 1 year
Members getting to actively partake in shaping Samfunnet by admitting issues they care about and voting them over, by electing their preferred representatives for the different positions.
Being able to mold the entire marketing process from an idea to publishing, and to be able to experiment with concepts and techniques through the entire process.
Even the smallest things need planning for a smooth execution. Sometimes it takes a while, and I have learned to respect that!
Tord Kristian Fjellheim Andersen
Editor-in-Chief for Tuntreet, 1 year (Editor for 1/2 year, Editor-in-Chief for 1/2 year)
The members being able to decide what their Studentsamfunnet looks like. By proposing and voting cases over, by voting in board members and by following up on day-to-day affairs and economics. The peak of the semester!
To be able to enlighten, entertain and to elevate the debates in Ås. Being able to keep it going, even during the strictest lockdowns. And of course, to be able to bring the latest issue home and show it off to everyone! Especially the special editions!
I have learned to see more nuances, to make decisions and to delegate. Things are not always as easy as they seem!
The Election Committee
There are four people in The Election Committee. They hold the positions until November 2021 and March 2022.
Members of Samfunnet being able to run for positions and being informed on the affairs of Samfunnet as well as being able to control and influence the future developments of Samfunnet.
The most fun part of our position is the opportunity to get in touch with lots of talented students. In addition, it is great to contribute to keeping the voluntary spirit of Samfunnet going.
The position has taught us how grand the voluntary spirit in Ås is. Simultaneously, we have experienced how much work lies behind running Samfunnet.
