A review of GF

GF – a long evening of bad throwing, loud bangs, and non-understandable jokes. It gong mâl en wie oerdwealsk. This semester’s GF was a very long process, starting at 17:00 and only finishing around midnight. Tun & Tre’s job is to give you a non-biased, non-Norwegian inside scoop of the evening’s events and all its important developments. My Norwegian language skills are, of course, as good as they can get as an international student, so everything I will enlighten you with is 100% the truth.

The evening consisted of thanking a lot of people who had worked for Samfunnet this last year and were going to be replaced by those elected tonight. There were also a lot of different bodies of Samfunnet that presented their reports. A quick overview of the most important information:

  • Samfunnsstyret will improve in 2025 and they will get rid of Aud Max in 2026. They have achieved sustainability just now by building an “environment guy tower”. A good thing for international students is that Samfunnet membership is free for them based on a contract signed between Samfunnet and AU.

  • Hus- og finansstyret talked about a lot of numbers, 600 000 kroner here, 260 000 kroner there. There are also investments, and they have good liquidity. Apparently, their internal routines are not strict enough and they should improve that. They want to do bigger projects and apparently beer plays a huge role in that.

  • UKA i Ås are going to practice recirculation to become more sustainable and do something to sløyfa. Apparently 93% of the people voted in favor of changing something about sløyfa.

  • The economy chef talked about how proud they are of the fact that beer and shots are the most popular items and that money from that has been donated to a good cause.

  • Næringslivsutvalget mentioned that they have exciting upcoming plans related to companies they have been talking to.

  • Tuntreet will work extra hard and make a podcast.

The main event of the evening was that Tor Pedo won again. All kidding aside, the main event was … the VOTING! The longer the voting went on the weaker the applause for the candidates got. Luckily the sound guys solved this issue by purposefully waking everyone up. Although some pedestrians at GF told us that those loud bangs might be a curse, part of a bigger international plot to rid NMBU students of their hearing, or just plain old hacking.

The real MVPs of GF:

  • The microphone - who was adjusted so many times, I could not keep count.

  • The soup, both the sweet potato and pea soup.

  • All the Norwegians who sucked at throwing or catching the ask box. (Yes, almost all of you).

  • The sound guys for those delicious loud bangs and sounds which gave people heart attacks and hearing problems.

  • Magnus, the leader of Samfunnet, who had to thank so many people and this was his last GF as leader.

  • The ordstyrere who showed us the voting results of at one point, which was scandalous.

  • Erlend Myhre Hammersborg – the guy on exchange who ran for three different positions and was not elected for any of them. (Hope you have more luck next time!)

  • The Hankatt guy – Ola Reinskou Andersen – who said I want to run for …. *turns around and looks at the screen to check which position he is running for*. And he also mentioned about 8 times that a Hannkatt is the person to approach if you want a good party.

  • Both Kristin…A and Kristine and their epic battle for the Valgnemnda position.

All positions that needed to be filled during the GF were filled after a tremendous amount of “banking” and spontaneity, so there was no need to schedule an additional meeting. The main take-away of the night was that Samfunnet is a meeting place, a place to meet people, or in plak wêr’t jo minsken moetsje kinne. Oan’t ein wist ik ek net mear wat der allegeare sein waard. No is’t myn beurt om jim te betiizjen. It allerbêste! Oant sjen!
